Croatia - Dalmatian Island Highlights to/from Dubrovnik

Croatia - Dalmatian Island Highlights to/from Dubrovnik

Degree of difficulty - B

Popular with sailors from all over the world, Croatia boasts over 1000 islands dotted in a spectacular turquoise sea lapping along a breath taking landscape of mostly untouched coastline. Our tour by bike and boat is the perfect way to experience the numerous inlets, bays and medieval towns set against a magnificent mountain backdrop.

Accompanied by our charming, floating accommodation we set off on a cycling adventure that explores the Dalmatian region and its islands in the gorgeous Adriatic Sea.

You have three different tours to chose from, all with their own special attractions. You can explore this sparsely populated part of Croatia including the stunning coasts on Korcula Island, Hva with its beautiful medieval town, the peaceful National Park on Mljet Island or the tiny Lastovo Island with its untouched scenery. During the daily scenic island crossings you can sit back, rest your legs and enjoy the scenery from the ship while our private chef spoils us with delicious, freshly made, local cuisine.

This tour either starts in the beautiful city of Dubrovnik and finishes in Split or vice versa

This tour travels between Dubrovnik & Split.  The tour runs every week and the start location alternates each week between Dubrovnik & Split.  The itinerary below is for the tour starting in Dubrovnik.Tour dossiers will give further details on both tours:

1st Day (Sun) Dubrovnik (Embarkation)
Individual journey to Dubrovnik. Check-in on board starts between 2 and 2.30 pm at Gruž, the town port. At about 4.30 pm, a guided tour through Dubrovnik is offered, where we hear some interesting details of the town’s history and visit the most impressive sites. The boat will spend the night in Gruž offering the guests an opportunity to experience Dubrovnik’s nightlife.

2nd Day (Mon) Dubrovnik – Šipan Island (approx. 13.7 mi./22 km)
Our first crossing takes us to the island of Šipan, the largest of the Elaphiti Islands. Accompanied by your tour guide a pleasant cycle trip takes us past villas with exotic gardens and through a fertile valley framed by a range of limestone hills. We pay the harbor town of Suđurađ a visit before returning back to the boat.

3rd Day (Tue) Mljet Island – Lastovo Island (approx. 16 mi./25 km)
Today we cycle across to the green and forested island Mljet - known as the honey island. With 70 % of its landmass covered by woodland it is the most forested island in the Mediterranean region. Homer mentioned this lovely island in his epic poem “Odyssey”. He made it a home for the Nymph Calypso and the legendary Greek king Odysseus, who could not resist Calypso and stayed on Mljet for seven years. We cycle from Sobra to Pomena where we embark our ship and cross over to the Island of Lastovo. The island is one of the smaller inhabited islands in the Adriatic Sea. The Emperor Augustus appreciated the mild climate, and in Roman times it was even named “Augusta Insula” after him. The barely more than 1,000 inhabitants continue to live from fishing the extremely rich waters, agriculture and viticulture.

4th Day (Wed) Lastovo Island – Korčula Island: Korčula town (approx. 17 mi./27 km)
Today’s cycle tour takes us in a large circle across the beautiful island of Lastovo. The gold-coloured white wine “Marastina”, known even beyond Croatia’s borders, is grown here. Back at the boat its time to cast off! A crossing takes us over to Korčula Island, regarded as one of the most beautiful islands in Dalmatia. The Picturesque town of Korčula competes with Venice for the honor of being the birthplace of the famous explorer Marco Polo. Use the evening to wander through the fishbone alleyways and soak up the vibes of this stylish town. A guided city tour will give you an overview of the city and its features.

5th Day (Thu) Korčula Island: Korčula town - Vela Luka (approx. 28 mi./45 km)
Today’s cycle tour leads us across the charming island of Korčula. A mild Mediterranean climate and a broad variety of different landscapes accompany us on the tour today. Take your time, and remember to take a break to enjoy the view over the deep blue sea and neighboring islands. Dinner is served on board to replenish our strength after an active day. Overnight stay in the sheltered bay of Vela Luka.

6th Day (Fri) Vela Luka - Hvar Island: /Hvar – Stari Grad – Jelsa (approx. 22 mi./35 km)
The day starts with a relaxing cruise to Hvar town on Hvar Island. Make use of the time before the cycle tour starts and go for a little stroll through the city. Standing on the magnificent Renaissance Square you can enjoy a view up to the Spanish fortress towering high above the city. Today's bike tour takes us from the city of Hvar through small villages and lavender fields to Stari Grad on the opposite side of the island. The descent to Stari Grad offers breathtaking views. After a lunch break on board we continue to Jelsa.

7th Day (Sat) Jelsa – Brač Island: Bol - Milna (approx. 27 mi./43 km)
We cruise to the island of Brač, famous for its radiant marble that was, among others, used for the White House in Washington and in the construction of the German Reichstag building in Berlin. Today’s cycle tour leads us from Bol to the tranquil harbour of Milna. The boat awaits us here for a last crossing after an adventurous week. We board the boat and cruise to the UNESCO world heritage city of Split. A guided city tour offers us the chance to see inside the former Palace of Emperor Diocletian and to learn about its transformation into the city which it has become. A cheerful evening meal on board the boat gives you time to celebrate the success of the week with fellow travellers and tour guides.

8th Day (Sun) Split (Disembarkation)
After breakfast disembarkation until 9 am and individual trip home or extended stay in Croatia.

Tour map

This was our third cycling holiday with cycling safaris and this bike and boat option was the best by far. The boat was extremely comfortable with air conditioning in our cabin. The food was delicious with all allergies/ food preferences catered for. The only buffet meal was the breakfast- the other meals were plated and served to us - we were very well looked after. The boat sailed only during the day, so no motor noise to keep us awake. The cycling was the highlight with fantastic scenery on mostly quiet roads on each of the islands we visited. The guides were both with us every pedal-push of the way, attending immediately to any issues that arose. At the beginning and end of each outing, we just left our bikes on the quay and our wonderful guides did all the hauling of the bikes on and off the boat.
The other great advantage of a boat trip is only one unpacking!
To me, this boat and bike island hopping trip is the best way to appreciate some of the scenic islands of Croatia. Anyone who is unable for the combination of hills and heat can try the e-bike and not miss out on this great holiday.

Marie & Tom (Dalmatian Islands plus August 2018)

My trip was excellent.  The ship Harmonia was in very good condition and clean.  The crew was amazing.  The food was incredibly delicious.  Our tour guides Lucija and Benjamin were outstanding, and the bikes were high quality and in excellent condition.  Only 2 of us (myself and a woman from Austria) rode a regular bike; the others rode an e-bike.  I tried out one of the Cube e-bikes for a few minutes and I was very impressed. The itinerary was very interesting and of course, the scenery was gorgeous. It didn’t hurt that the weather was spectacular... I enjoyed the day trip (by bus) to Mostar, but if I had a choice I would have preferred cycling that day instead.

Tom Haser Dalmatian Islands Plus May 2018

My wife and enjoyed all aspects of the trip. The accommodations were great. It was a treat not having to pack/unpack each day. The ship was clean and comfortable and the crew was friendly and attentive. Meals were different and tasty. The bike trips were fun and the guides kept everyone informed and together in one group. Nikes were fine, my wife had an e-bike for the first time and felt she could really enjoy the ride without worrying about keeping up or being too tired after the ride. It will be the only bike for her in the future.

Ric and Pat McCormick (Dalmatian Islands Plus 2018)

We had an amazing time - we loved the boat experience. There were 30 in the group and everybody was very friendly and we had great fun. I was glad to have an electric bike as the terrain was very hilly.
It was our first experience of this type of holiday and definitely one we would like to repeat.

Anne O'Gorman (Dalmatian Islands from Dubrov, June 2018)

It was a fantastic holiday, perfect in all ways. The boat was just lovely, and cabins were spotlessly clean as well as the rest of the boat, very well kept. The crew were so pleasant, the captain gracious and our tour guides were wonderful. The two chefs did a great job, not easy to get such great meals on board usually but they did it. The captain's dinner was a night to remember!
We enjoyed the routes taken from easy to extremely difficult; magnificent mountaintop views, beautiful harbours and cycling around the lakes - wonderful variety.
